Your questions answered.
Do Kenyan nationals need a medical visa to travel to India?
Yes. You will need an Indian Medical Visa (MED Visa). Once your hospital appointment is confirmed, we provide an official hospital invitation letter. You apply at the Indian High Commission in Nairobi. The process typically takes 5–10 working days. We guide you through every document required.
Does NHIF cover medical treatment in India?
Kenya's National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) does not currently cover treatment abroad. However, many Kenyan patients find that the total cost of India treatment + flights + accommodation is comparable to or less than top Nairobi private hospital costs — without the limitations of local availability for complex procedures.
What documents do I need for my India medical trip?
Valid Kenyan passport (6+ months), all medical reports, scans and test results, the hospital appointment letter from India (we arrange this), passport photographs, and proof of travel funds. We provide a personalised document checklist once you register.
How long should I budget for the trip?
Cardiac bypass — 12–14 days minimum. Knee/hip replacement — 10–12 days. Cancer treatment — 2 to 8 weeks. IVF — 3–4 weeks per cycle. We provide a detailed day-by-day itinerary before you travel.
What flights go from Nairobi to India?
Kenya Airways flies direct from Nairobi (NBO) to Mumbai (BOM) — one of Africa's most convenient India connections. Ethiopian Airlines (via Addis Ababa) and Emirates (via Dubai) are other options to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Total journey time is 5–10 hours.
Is it safe to travel to India for treatment?
Yes. A named Heal Now India coordinator meets you at the airport and accompanies you throughout your stay. Transport is pre-arranged and vetted. Accommodation is in safe, hospital-adjacent areas. India's major hospital cities receive thousands of African patients annually and have dedicated international patient departments.
How are payments made to the hospital?
All treatment payments go directly to the hospital via international wire transfer (USD). Heal Now India does not collect treatment payments. We advise you on the exact payment process for your chosen hospital before you travel.
